Sunscreen

Sunburn/Photoaging

The ultimate skincare secret is Consistent sun protection  all year round . The sun can make your skin age faster(photoaging), causing issues like, skin cancer,  pigmentation, sunburn, tanning, etc. Many of us only start thinking about protecting our skin from the sun when we see signs of aging. Here’s a simple rule: always use sunscreen before going outside, even if it’s cloudy or cold, because the sun’s rays can still reach your skin. In the summer, it’s obvious to use sunscreen, but remember to use one with higher SPF and reapply it every two hours. Sunscreen works by stopping the harmful effects of the sun on your skin. The most important part of sunscreen  is the  ingredient, or group of ingredients, that works as a filter to stop the harmful effects of the sun on our skin.

Common Sunscreen Myths

Does opting for SPF 30 offer twice the level of protection compared to SPF 15? Not at all. Firstly, it’s important to understand that SPF primarily measures the extent of UVB protection provided by a sunscreen. SPF 15 shields approximately 93 percent of UVB rays, while SPF 30 offers around 97 percent protection. Of greater significance, SPF 50 provides 98 percent UVB filtration. As a result, the difference between using SPF 30 and SPF 50 is minimal. For the majority of individuals, an SPF range of 15 to 30 is typically sufficient unless there is a history of skin cancer or heightened sensitivity to sunlight.

Is there any added benefit to using multiple products containing SPF? Unfortunately, no. Whether you apply a moisturizer with SPF, followed by sunscreen, and then a foundation with SPF, it won’t lead to cumulative protection. Your skin will only benefit from the highest SPF level among the products you apply.”
